Julian Karlsen (b.1988) is a visual artist hailing from Gjøvik, currently based in Oslo. In 2011, Karlsen embarked on studies at Bergen School of Architecture and later AHO. However, he discontinued his studies to pursue a full-time career as an artist. Since then, he has held numerous exhibitions showcasing his own works and has also curated young artists' exhibitions through the project Galleri Lyssky. His artworks often navigate the juncture between figurative depictions of human experiences and abstract portrayals of emotions like suffering, love, and despair. This diversity also extends to non-figurative pieces. Karlsen employs an intuitive and expressionistic approach. Some of his works also bear traces of humorous and playful interpretations of reality.
